Users with access to record in BlueCast can download and install the Panopto Recorder software on their own computers.

Log into BlueCast at https://bluecast.hosted.panopto.com using the BlueLine Account Option.

From the BlueCast web site there is a link in the upper right corner of the page.

For Windows Installation:

  • You will need to have administrator access on your computer to install the software. Please contact the DoIT Service Desk at 402.280.1111 and they can grant you temporary administrator access for this. With Windows just double click on the installer and click through taking all of the defaults. The Recorder will be configured correctly once installed.

For Mac OS X Installation:

  • For Macintosh computers you will need administrative access to install software. Once the Recorder is installed you will need to specify the BlueCast server address when you first try to log in from the Recorder. Type in bluecast.hosted.panopto.com for the server when prompted. Then choose “Get Providers from Server” and select the “BlueLine Account” option to log in. The server address will be saved for the future.

The Panopto Library must be enabled within a course/site before the recorder can be downloaded. Please submit the Panopto Access Form in order to enable the Panopto Library and request training.

The recorder has already been installed on the computers within the HSC classrooms. Therefore, if you are recording in a classroom, you do not need to download. However, once the Panopto Library has been enabled within your SOLE course, you must access the library within SOLE at least once before attempting to create a recording using the recorder. So, if you have not yet done so, enter the course in SOLE first before opening the recorder.

If you would like to download the recorder to your office or home computer, then you can begin by opening the Panopto Library within SOLE. It is located within Resources, near the bottom of the left navigation within your course.

To download the recorder:

  1. Click the Create button and select Record a new session.
  2. Click the Download Panopto button.
  3. The panoptorecorder.exe file will be downloaded to your computer.
  4. Open this file and click to Run the file.
  5. Follow the prompts to complete the installation of the recorder.
  6. Once the installation is complete, the recorder will open and prompt you to log into SOLE. There is three login options:
    • WVU Login – login to a SOLE account using a WVU Login username and password.
    • Don’t have a WVU Account? Log in here – login to a SOLE account with an existing external email address and password.
    • Sign in as a Guest – log in with Guest access if you do not have an existing SOLE account. A SOLE course administrator should submit the Panopto Support Request form afterward in order to route the recording to the appropriate course within SOLE.
